The Holy Eucharist

The Holy Eucharist is the Sacrament of God’s love. In this holy Sacrament Christ gives us His own body and blood to be the nurture of our soul. It is the Sacrament which feeds and nourishes the life of divine grace in our soul. Christ instituted the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper when He changed bread and wine into His own body and blood.

Children, you have told me before about some of the Sacraments. What do the Sacraments give to us ? Which Sacrament first gives us God’s grace? Why are we said to be born again in Baptism? What is God’s grace to our soul? What does this new life do for our soul? What Sacrament makes us strong in this new life?

Once you told me about the time when you were a little baby. Who gave you to your father and mother? Who gave you your life? Why do you have to eat and drink? What would happen if you didn’t eat and drink for a long time? Who gives us things to eat and drink? Why are some things good to eat and drink and others are not? Who made them like that? When the Jews refused to believe that He would give them His body and blood to be the food and drink of their soul, He told them that unless they ate His flesh and drank His blood they could not have life in them. St. Matthew (24, 26—28) says : “Whilst they were at supper Jesus took bread, and blessed and broke it : and gave to His disciples and said : Take ye, and eat. This is my body. And taking the chalice, He gave thanks, and gave to them, saying : Drink ye all of this. For this is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many unto the remission of sins.” (See also St. Mark 14, 22—24 ; St. Luke 22, 19—20 ; I Corinthians 11, 23-25.)
